[Positioning] The referee's forward run anticipating a switch to the right and a run in behind

In this passage of play, look at the referee's running and the anticipation behind it. As No. 22 received the ball and turned, the referee began to run forward. There are two main possible reasons for this movement. The first is that, as No. 22 is right-footed, a switch to the right could be expected, and the referee, realising that they were standing on the line of that pass, moved to adjust their position. The second is that Hiroshima's No. 11 was making a run in behind up front, and the referee moved in order to deal with that run. Whether these were the reasons for the run is no more than conjecture. It seems likely, however, that the referee had these two possibilities in mind and chose to run forward in order to reach the best position from which to deal with either of them. Personally, I think the anticipation of the run in behind was the stronger of the two. In the event no ball was played in behind, so that anticipation itself did not prove correct; even so, in a passage of play that ran from the switch to the right through to the goal, the referee's anticipation stood out.
