Key Points

What to look at in this scene is the referee's movement. As this was a loose ball from a corner kick, there were many players in front of goal and the area was crowded. The player who scored kept the ball with excellent technique and moved away from opponents several times. For the referee, it was very difficult to anticipate when a shot would be taken. In situations like this, in order to judge offences, including a handball offence by a defending player, the referee needs to keep taking up positions that leave them ready whenever a shot is taken and whenever an incident that has to be judged occurs. Looking at the referee, it can be seen that they took small steps, kept a clear field of vision and worked to judge the challenge. Not stopping their feet and continuing to take steps even in a crowded area makes this a valuable example for match officials.
