How the footage and Laws apply

Watch the referee's positioning and decision as Nagasaki broke through the middle. Nagasaki's No. 10 dropped into the centre, received the ball, turned and played a forward pass before continuing the run. The referee was in a good position to follow play, but that position lay in the player's path. The referee looked round and saw No. 10 running towards them. It appears the referee chose to stand still because an uncertain movement could have obstructed the player. Staying put may also have made the referee's position easier for the player to anticipate. As soon as No. 10 passed, the referee set off again to watch the finish in front of goal. Choosing when to remain still so as not to impede a player makes this a useful example for match officials.
