What to look at in this scene is the referee's running and their ability to turn their head and keep track of the situation. With Tokyo Verdy pressing from the front, Kashima's No. 17 got in behind on the left and the attack suddenly gathered speed. Watch the referee's running, and how they turn their head, as the move goes towards goal. At the moment the Kashima player got in behind, there were three Kashima players besides No. 17. The referee quickly turned their head to check the situation and took in where each of those players was. Having done so, the referee ran in a way that did not get in the players' way, at a speed that meant they were not left behind by Kashima's fast attack. In a fast attack it is easy to have nothing left over beyond keeping up with the ball. Even so, this referee turned their head calmly, and it can be seen just how much of the situation they checked, which makes it a very valuable example for match officials.
